Prerequisite: ELED 120 or PSYC 224 or PSYC 336; and minimum of sophomore standing or freshman Commonwealth honors The course examines elementary education from a variety of perspectives including historical, sociocultural and developmental. This field-based experience is used to contextualize topics and issues including what it means to be an effective, culturally responsive educator, teaching models and approaches, professional teaching standards and critical issues related to teaching and learning. This course encourages students to analyze the teaching profession as a career choice and prepares students to apply for admission into Bridgewater’s teaching licensure program. A 20-hour, field-based experience is attached to this course. Offered fall and spring semester.
