Prerequisite: PHOE 301 Corequisite: PHOE 336L Light Detection and Ranging, or LiDAR, uses pulses of light to determine distances to objects. In this course, students will build and test LiDAR systems with applications in terrestrial, airborne and mobile systems. Students will learn how signals are formed and including source irradiance, reflected radiance and detector power, as well as how signals are transformed using Huygens Principle and Fresnel and Fraunhofer diffraction and how signals are processed to create 2D and 3D images. Offered alternate years.
