Prerequisite: MATH 202 with a minimum grade of "C-"; and MATH 251 with a minimum grade of "C-" or MATH 261 with a minimum grade of "C-" This course provides an introduction to the quantitative approximation of solutions to mathematical problems. Topics include solution of algebraic and transcendental equations, general iteration, the Newton-Raphson method, approximation of functions and curve fitting, the Lagrange interpolation formula, Newton's forward difference method, the method of least squares, orthogonality, numerical integration and the Euler-Cauchy technique. Offered periodically.
