FullCourseDesc
Prerequisite: Admission to the MS program in Mathematics or consent of instructor Numerical analysis is the study of discrete techniques to approximate solutions to mathematical problems, emphasizing both theoretical and computation findings. Students will study root finding techniques, convergence analysis, functions approximation via interpolation and extrapolation, solving linear systems and methods to solve differential equations. Theoretical aspects regarding stability, consistency and convergence of numerical scheme will also be examined. When time allows, techniques like the Finite Element Method will also be covered. Offered alternate years.
