PIC Design

Prerequisite: PHOE 301 Corequisite: PHOE 450L Students will learn to analyze and design photonics integrated circuits and related optical systems. Students will understand the function of on-chip laser sources, ring resonators and wave guides. Students will design a photonics integrated circuit to accomplish a designated task that addresses societal and economic needs in a context of the ethical and professional responsibilities of an engineer. Two hours of lecture and two hours of lab weekly. Offered alternate years.
