Prerequisite: PHED 568 or consent of instructor This course provides students with advanced knowledge to support the application of principles, methods, and theories for planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluating a training and performance environment that supports optimal athlete development and sport performance, as well as the psychological, emotional, and physical well-being of athletes and coaches. The following dimensions of coaching practice will be addressed: integration of coaching values and philosophy into program development and coaching practice; structuring a training and performance environment that align with current models of athletic talent and skill development; designing safe and effective training and performance plans that support the well-being, learning, skill acquisition, performance excellence, and physical literacy of all participants; developing plans for assessment and evaluation performance outcomes; developing professional learning networks; and engaging in reflective strategies to optimize performance and emotional well-being. Offered fall and spring semesters.
