This course is an introduction to the art and architecture of pre-Columbian civilizations in Mesoamerica and the Andes. It explores how various artforms were embedded in broader economic, political, religious and social systems; and how each civilization articulated their values and beliefs through art. A visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is required to experience first-hand examples of art and visual culture from ancient cultures from Mesoamerica and the Andes. Offered every two years.
