Prerequisite: PSYC 201 with a minimum grade of "C" or MATH 110/110E with a minimum grade of "C"; and PSYC 204 with a minimum grade of "C" or PSYC 320 with a minimum grade of "C" or HLSC 340 with a minimum grade of "C"; and PSYC 230; or consent of instructor The primary purpose of this course is to critically evaluate theories, research and/or treatments of psychological disorders. Paradigms for understanding disorders, such as the sociocultural model, diathesis-stress model and the biopsychosocial model will be explored. Students will learn how the major types of disorders are defined and classified. Students will also build empathy and sensitivity toward people suffering from psychological distress. Offered fall, spring, summer.
