This course focuses on restorative justice and transformative justice as alternatives to retributive justice. The aim is to create a safe community, healing for victims, and opportunities for offender accountability, transformation and restoration. The course will investigate the historical roots, theoretical origins, fundamental principles, philosophies and practices of restorative and transformative justice such as conferencing, circles, victim-offender reconciliation, truth and reconciliation commissions, and prison reintegration programs.
