Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MEd or postmaster's program in counseling; or consent of instructor This course is an overview of substance use, dependency and addiction disorders (gambling, sex, etc.). Students will learn about the etiology of disorders as well as best methods for treatment with various client populations. In addition to conducting assessments for diagnosis of substance use and addiction disorders, the impact of addiction on the clients and others will be discussed. Basic strategies and evidence-based treatments for evaluating counseling outcomes in addiction counseling will be covered. Minimum grade of "B-" to be considered passing. Offered spring semester and summer.
