FullCourseDesc
Prerequisite: CHST 203 or SCWK 250 This course is designed to provide students with both knowledge and skills to actively promote and lead a universal approach to social and emotional learning (SEL). This course will explore the research on the impact of social and emotional learning on academic outcomes and the role of engagement as a key factor in promoting social and emotional learning with students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds, including students with disabilities. Research indicates that students who do not have the skills to build and maintain relationships, regulate their behaviors and be socially self-aware, are unable to reach their academic potential (Elias, 2012). Offered fall and spring semesters.
