Prerequisite: Any two of the following courses: HIST 111, HIST 112, HIST 131, HIST 132, HIST 221, HIST 222; or consent of instructor Although no longer America's "longest" war, the Vietnam War continues to profoundly shape American culture, politics and memory. At the same time, Vietnam was the crucible for some of the most significant changes in the twentieth century world, including imperialism, ideology, violence, nationalism, colonialism, communism and revolution. This course studies the causes, outcomes and legacies of the conflict in Southeast Asia within a broad geographical and chronological context. Offered alternate years. May be taken for graduate-level credit. May be taken for graduate-level credit.
