Prerequisite: ENGL 102, which may be taken concurrently; open to English majors and minors only This course will help students develop the skills needed for writing papers in upper-level literature courses. By reading, discussing and writing about works in various genres, students will learn what sorts of questions are likely to generate insight into a work of literature, how to develop and support such insights in a paper, how to distinguish a valid from an invalid interpretation and how to use the specialized terminology associated with each of the major genres.
