Dr. Field specializes in early African American literature and American literature more broadly. She led a collaborative process to establish the African American Studies Program at BSU in 2018 and served as the program’s founding coordinator. Dr. Field teaches courses that center student engagement with literature, history, and culture. Her research has focused on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century African American literature and cross-ethnic literary exchange in the long nineteenth century. Dr. Field’s current research focus is a collaborative project with Dr. Jamie Huff, Professor of Criminal Justice, to tell the history of the Black and Indigenous community of Bridgewater in the Revolutionary and early national periods.
