Secondary Education and Educational Leadership

Teaching for Tomorrow

In the Department of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership, we value Bridgewater State University’s legacy as a teachers’ college, and we strive to build on that foundation as we prepare the next generation of educators. Our students learn to synthesize innovative strategies with time-tested teaching methods. In small classes, students develop and apply their knowledge by creating and implementing original lesson plans, exploring new technologies and collaborating with their peers. Starting in their first education course, students spend time observing experienced teachers in local middle and high schools, and a semester of student teaching provides a rich professional learning experience. Students graduate prepared to teach, lead, and serve in a diverse and evolving global society.

BSU education programs are highly regarded in the region on account of our faculty members, who share a commitment to helping students grow and develop into teachers who go on to have a profound impact on their students’ lives. Faculty members enhance learning by sharing their wealth of real-life teaching experience and ongoing research on current issues in education.

The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education, an Accelerated Postbaccalaureate Program for those seeking initial teaching licensure, and graduate programs in Teaching, Educational Leadership (MEd and CAGS) and Instructional Technology.
