William Burkhead

William Burkhead joins Bridgewater State University as a full-time Instructor in the Educational Leadership Program after more than 30 years of service in public education as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership in Schooling at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where his research focuses on equitable access to career and technical education. Bill has been a member of the Bridgewater State University community since 2017, serving as an adjunct faculty member in the Educational Leadership Program. During that time, he has taught graduate courses in school law, educational leadership, and related topics while mentoring aspiring school leaders throughout southeastern Massachusetts.

He earned his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Educational Leadership from Bridgewater State University and was honored with the University's Nicholas P. Tillinghast Award for outstanding achievement in public education. Most recently, Bill served as Superintendent of Scituate Public Schools, where he successfully advanced a vision centered on equity, academic excellence, and long-term sustainability. During his tenure, the community unanimously approved each annual operating budget, supported the construction of a new elementary school, and expanded innovative learning opportunities for students. Previously, he served as Principal of Monomoy Regional High School, where he was named the 2018 Massachusetts High School Principal of the Year by the Massachusetts School Administrators' Association.

Throughout his career, Bill has been committed to developing educational leaders and connecting educational theory with effective practice. He looks forward to bringing more than three decades of leadership experience to the classroom while preparing the next generation of principals, district leaders, and educators. Bridgewater State University has played an important role in Bill's professional and personal life. In addition to earning his graduate degree and teaching in the Educational Leadership Program, he is proud that his daughter graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2019. Bill resides in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with his wife and their pug, Bilbo Puggins.
