Professor Buhmann received his BFA in Design from the University of Wyoming in 2002, and his MFA in Drama from the University of California, Irvine in 2009. Before coming to BSU in 2014, he served as Master Electrician/Scene Shop Supervisor for the Texas Tech Department of Theatre and Dance.
Specializing in theatrical and dance lighting design, Professor Buhmann designs four to six productions each academic year. Additionally, he is responsible for the mentoring of student stage managers, scenic, lighting, sound and projections designers, and run crew members.
As a freelance lighting designer Professor Buhmann has worked with such companies as Company ONE (peerless), The Un-Common Theater Company (Carrie: The Musical), The City of Somerville, MA (Dancing in the Streets Summer Series), Ballet Lubbock, Flatlands Dance Theatre, The Cactus Theatre, Snowy Range Summer Theatre, The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, Lubbock Moonlight Musicals and Seattle’s Balagan Theatre (Les Miserables). His design work has been seen in Massachusetts, Texas, California, Wyoming, Seattle, New York and Prague, CZ. Additionally Dr. Buhmann works within our community as a Designer and Technical Director for BSU’s Arts for Youth/Arts for Teens program and the Capachione School of the Performing Arts.
