We are excited to continue growing Women in STEM at BSU and creating a welcoming community where students can meet others with similar interests. We are always excited to welcome new members, so anyone interested in STEM is encouraged to join us!
Walk into a Bridgewater State Women in STEM Club meeting, and you’ll find more than students talking about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. You’ll find women building connections, swapping advice, challenging assumptions and imagining themselves in fields where women are still often underrepresented.
Through events and conversations, this community of peers provides a space where members can lean on one another as they navigate their college journeys.
Women in STEM Club president and computer science major Jennifer Chan, ’27, shares what the club is all about.
In your own words, explain what the club’s mission is: Women in STEM is a club that wants to empower women in a field that’s mostly male dominated. We strive to provide a safe space for students who are stressed out from schoolwork and want a place to relax and meet others in the same or similar field.
What are your main responsibilities as club president? I’m responsible for leading the club, coming up with event ideas, getting our club events on Engage BSU, communication, and helping with budgeting/social media.
Why did you want to join this club? I wanted to join this club because I wanted to meet other people who were STEM majors and I wanted to be more involved on campus.
What are examples of events you host? Some events we have planned this semester are faux bouquet making, decorating tote bags, slime making, and painting fake pumpkins. We’ve also had special events in the past where we would invite a female professor to speak about their educational and work experience journey of being a woman in STEM.
Why is this club important to offer at BSU? This club is important to offer at BSU because it’s a great opportunity for women to build a community with others in the STEM field. It shows female students that there are a lot of women pursuing similar interests and careers. This is also a great place to network, share different experiences, and learn from one another.
Why should students join this club? Students should join our club if they want to become more involved on campus and want to meet new people who have similar interests. We know that STEM majors can be difficult, and the workload can be heavy, so we try to make our meetings fun and relaxing. If you’re looking for a club that gives you a chance to unwind, meet new people, and take a short break from the stress of classes, definitely come to one of our meetings!
Who can join this club? Even though we are women in STEM, anyone can join. We mainly focus on students who are women in STEM, but even if you’re not, everyone is welcome to join our club and we are very inclusive.
How can people learn more? You can learn more about our club through our Instagram, where we post updates about upcoming meetings, events, and other club activities. They can also reach out to us through Instagram or contact me directly if they have any questions or would like to learn more about getting involved.
