Founded by Horace Mann in 1840 as the first permanently sited teacher education program in the country, Bridgewater State University has always been a central contributor to educator preparation. The College of Education & Health Professions extends this tradition by offering undergraduate and graduate courses designed for students who aspire to be leaders in the education and human services fields. Our programs foster lifelong learning and prepare graduates to excel in a diverse and ever-changing world.

Education and Health Professions Outreach embraces and supports values in our community by providing enriching programs for students, teachers and administrators. We collaborate regularly with public school district leaders in Southeastern Massachusetts to plan valuable programs that are based on the needs of students, teachers and administrators and address current trending topics.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education collects, aggregates, and publishes data on all state-approved education preparation programs. Bridgewater State University participated as a pilot institution for the development of the department's Education Preparation Program Profiles posted on their website.

The Field Placement Office in the College of Education and Health Professions at BSU places over 500 students in quality clinical placements throughout the academic year. This process requires the development and maintenance of PK-12 partnerships with over 50 school districts and agencies within the university’s service region. A student teaching agreement details the parameters of these partnerships. Clinical handbooks, observation forms and rubrics guide the assessment of our field experiences.
The College of Education and Health Professions has also developed a network of professional development schools in several cities and towns in the BSU service region: Brockton, Easton (SRVTHS), New Bedford, Scituate and Taunton. Professional development school sites are chosen based upon their diverse student populations, innovative instructional practice and willingness to partner with the university in the preparation of outstanding 21st century educators.
Over the many years of developing outstanding professional educators, BSU has built a vast network of exemplary P-12 supervising practitioners. These educators work with our preservice candidates on a daily basis to help them build upon their strong theoretical foundation in refining and differentiating their instructional strategies to meet the learning needs of our diverse student populations.

The College of Education and Health Professions consists of an array of programs that prepare students to work in health professions, and these programs also provide comprehensive fieldwork and internship opportunities for the students.
The health professions programs are in three academic departments (Communication Sciences and Disorders, Counselor Education and Health and Kinesiology). The career opportunities include but are not limited to the following:
Communication Sciences and Disorders: The Department provides students with a comprehensive understanding of speech pathology, audiology and related specialties. The career opportunities are Speech Therapist, Audiology, Speech/Language Educator or Pathology Assistant and Children’s Hearing Specialist.

Counselor Education: The Department of Counselor Education prepares students for successful careers in mental health counseling, school adjustment counseling, school counseling, and various roles in higher education settings.
