Beyond the Classroom

Internships

Internships give students the chance to gain a valuable perspective on the aviation industry while still enrolled at BSU. Our students have completed placements at aerospace companies like Raytheon and Magellan Jets, the New Bedford Regional Airport, Mass Port Authority, Textron, Rhode Island Airport Corporation and at airlines such as JetBlue, Delta Airlines, Peninsular Air and Cape Air.

University Airline Partnerships

The department strives to continuously provide new and unique opportunities for students through innovative partnerships with airlines. One of our earliest partnerships, the JetBlue University Gateway Program puts qualified students on an expedited path to becoming professional pilots. Students meet aviation professionals who guide and mentor them as they train, helping them forge valuable industry connections that will serve them well after graduation. Since the inception of the JetBlue University Gateway program, we have added two additional partnerships with CapeAir and Endeavor Airlines, giving students even more paths to achieve their goals.

Civil Air Patrol Senior Squadron

Established in 1941, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the volunteer civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. CAP provides emergency services such as search and rescue, inland homeland security and disaster relief; cadet programs that offer leadership and character development opportunities for middle and high school youth; and aerospace education programs designed to educate and stimulate interest in aviation and STEM fields. BSU’s Squadron (MA-005) was chartered in 2012 to connect the university and CAP through a shared mission of education and service.
