Take to the Skies
While mankind’s fascination with flight stretches back millennia, we’ve only been traversing the skies for a relatively short time. But in the century since the Wright Brothers first took off at Kitty Hawk, the field of aviation has blossomed into a rich industry in which new breakthroughs happen almost daily. At Bridgewater State University’s Department of Aviation Science, we take pride in our position at the forefront of the best practices in the field. Our students train under the supervision of experienced instructors and aviation professionals, positioning them for success in careers both on the ground and in the air.
Our FAA and internationally accredited flight training programs get students in the sky early, combining a broadly applicable liberal arts education with hands-on practical training in all types of weather and over a variety of terrains. Our Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) accreditation assures both students and prospective employers that graduates of our program receive quality training and education and are capable of performing a broad range of professional responsibilities. Through internships and a growing list of airline partnerships, students gain a comprehensive understanding of the industry, preparing them for careers as civilian or military pilots, flight planners, flight instructors, airport managers, flight dispatchers and air traffic controllers.
Professors Michael Welch and Michael Farley won funding to support planning for the creation of a new aircraft dispatchers program.
