Because the skills developed in the English department are widely applicable, our students find success at internship placements in a variety of fields, gaining valuable work experience and learning about the various professional environments and career paths open to them after graduation.

With mentoring from an English Department faculty member, many students undertake independent research projects on topics of their choice. English students have been awarded grants through the Adrian Tinsley Program (ATP) for Undergraduate Research and have published their work in the Undergraduate Review, BSU’s journal of student research and creative work.

Published once a year, our award-winning journal features literature and fine art by members of the BSU community. Students from the English department edit, design and print the publication with the guidance of faculty advisors. Competing with more than 10,000 university publications, The Bridge has garnered multiple Gold Circle awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association every year since its inception.
Open to all members of the BSU community and run by English majors, the English Society plans events throughout the year, including the Fiction to Film Night, literary-themed field trips and an annual undergraduate literature conference in collaboration with Stonehill College and UMass Boston.
