Beyond the Classroom

Internships

Because the skills developed in the English department are widely applicable, our students find success at internship placements in a variety of fields, gaining valuable work experience and learning about the various professional environments and career paths open to them after graduation.

Undergraduate Research

With mentoring from an English Department faculty member, many students undertake independent research projects on topics of their choice. English students have been awarded grants through the Adrian Tinsley Program (ATP) for Undergraduate Research and have published their work in the Undergraduate Review, BSU’s journal of student research and creative work.

Students from the English department edit, design and print the publication with the guidance of faculty advisors. Competing with more than 10,000 university publications, The Bridge has garnered multiple Gold Circle awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association every year since its inception.
